Businesses evolve through various phases from their foundation, and they should go through these phases one by one.

There are many methods developed thus far to analyze these phases. The method to be explained in this book is, instead of just listing the phases for family-owned businesses and all businesses, to show how to analyze the current phase to determine how to success. We will review the process of businesses from the foundation, to institutionalization and becoming a mature international business. We will discuss these phases over 21st Century’s modern philosopher Ken Wilber’s Individual’s Consciousness Development Model and system theorist “Dr. Don Edward Beck’s “Spiral Dynamics Model.” We will examine the issue with its practical implementations and psychological viewpoints by overlapping eight-phased consciousness development model and spiral dynamics model with my “Company’s Institutionalization Model”.

We will also mention “Psychology of Institutionalization”, a topic which is not being referredin books on institutionalization.

It will be easier to go through the phases of development and institutionalization, if the business, stakeholders and professional managers have knowledge on their psychological perspective.

The comparative phases of “Individual Consciousness Development Model” and my “Company’s Institutionalization Model” are provided as an table in Figure 1 integrated with the colors referring the phases of “Spiral Dynamics Model.”

In my model created within the context of businesses’ institutionalization, the first three of these stages are in order of; foundation, producing together, working to grow the business. First three stages are called as “My Company” Fourth stage is the situation arising from the complex order accompanying to growth. This stage is named as the “Confused Company” chapter which is also the name of book. It should be decided to

institutionalize and professionalize a structure which became a Confused Company, before the fifth stage. The fifth stage is the beginning of change, institutionalization and professionalizing in confused company. In sixth stage, the strategy of the business in the path of institutionalization and change, will be created to get out of a mess. Fifth and sixth stages are named as “Institutional Start Off” Seventh stage consists of specifying long term strategy road map along with working to make all processes and functions to be efficient. Eighth stage is to build a mature and efficient global business by completing

the process of institutionalization and change. Seventh and eighth stages are named as “Institutional Maturity”.
